The GUST Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is committed to fostering total student development. Toward this end, the CAE coordinates services and programs that empower students to grow intellectually, personally and socially. By assuming a proactive stance, and by participating in our programs, students can acquire and develop the requisite skills to act responsibly and succeed in their scholastic pursuits. Initially, the CAE will focus primarily on Freshman students, however, ultimately, the CAE's objective is to assist all students in earning their degrees, while empowering them to become productive members of the global community
Our Aims
Planning events and activities to help students adjust successfully to their first year of university.
Raising awareness -- among students, faculty and staff -- of the CAE and its objectives, so that we can work together to achieve common goals.
Eroding barriers to academic success by educating students about time management strategies, study skills, exam-related anxiety and stress management, syllabi, and communicating effectively with professors.
Quality Assurance.
At the CAE, we are proponents of the Developmental Model of Advising. We focus on student potential, instead of student limitations. Rather than viewing students as needing close supervision, we perceive them as self directed and growing. Instead of being problem oriented, we are growth oriented. If our students are struggling, our job is to work with them to find the most effective way to succeed.
