Mission
The mission of the A. M. Al-Refai
Library is to provide quality, user-focused services, and resources
in all formats (print/electronic) that respond to and
enrich the
informational needs and activities (teaching, learning, and research) of
faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Goals
The A. M. Al-Refai Library
goals
are to:
- Identify, acquire,
organize, and preserve informational resources relevant to teaching, research,
creative activities, and professional needs of the
academic community
- Provide timely bibliographic access to Library
resources, including appropriate use of state-of-the-art
technology
- Provide effective instructional support for users to
locate and retrieve Library information and resources
- Foster a forward-thinking, dynamic Library
organization that is flexible and responsive to user needs
in achieving the University's mission and goals
- Encourage and enable users to become life-long
retrievers, evaluators, and users of information

Collection
The A. M. Al-Refai Library supports a curriculum-oriented collection
containing books, e-books, journals, e-journals, audiovisual materials,
and bibliographic/full-text databases. The collection has a primary commitment
to supporting the University's degree
program requirements.
The collection is divided into two

Digital Resources
eJournals: The
Library provides more than
52,000 scholarly journals (including open access titles) in digital format. The collection supports core
curriculum degree requirements, general education, and elective courses.
The collection
provides full text coverage for academic areas of study, including
the social sciences, fine arts, humanities, education, computer science,
accounting, finance, business management, and economics.
eBooks:
The Library subscribes to over 52,000 ebooks from
Springer, ebrary, and Safari Online. The
collection includes ebooks, ereference works, lecture notes,
and book series covering various disciplines.
Databases: The
Library subscribes to bibliographic and full-text
databases including SAGE Humanities and Social Sciences
Collection, Taylor & Francis Collection, ScienceDirect (Business & Economics
collection), ABI/INFORM Global, Encyclopaedia of Islam -
Second and Third Editions, Encyclopaedia of The Qur'ān,
Encyclopedia of Women & Islamic Cultures, Index Islamicus, ACM Digital Library, IEEE Computer Society
Digital Library, Business Source Premier, Academic Search
Premier, ERIC,
Computers & Applied Sciences Complete, SocIndex, Regional Business News, AACE Digital Library, AccessScience,

Print Resources
Books: The
Library has
a growing collection of over 10,500 book titles. Books are
classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) classification system.
Reserve Collection: The reserve collection
includes items designated by faculty for course use as well as
core books requiring limited circulation. Reserve
books are
accessible at the Library circulation desk.
Reference Collection: The reference collection
is comprised of encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauruses, atlases, almanacs,
handbooks, manuals, and other fundamental sources of
information.
The reference collection is for use only within the Library.
Periodicals/Journals: The
Library presently subscribes to 60 periodical/journal
titles in print format. The collection is arranged alphabetically and
is
located in the periodical area of the Library.
Audiovisual: The
audiovisual collection
consists of over 710 videos, audio-cassettes, CDs, and DVDs. The CD
and DVD collection
is available only for Library use.
Special Collection: The special collection comprises Islamic banking & finance, Arabic books,
Gulf heritage, theses, and dissertations.
As part of the Library's special collection, the Library
provides American Corner, Chinese Corner and Spanish Corner collections supported by the
United States, Chinese, and Spanish Embassies in Kuwait. Top |
