GUST Math Foundation Unit First in Kuwait to Receive International NADE Accreditation
Gulf University for Science and Technology announced today that it has received its sixth international accreditation, this time for its Math Foundation Unit (MFU) from the National Association for Developmental Education(NADE) accreditation, based in the United States. With that, GUST has become the first university outside the US to receive the NADE.
The accreditation process took over two years to complete and involved all faculty and staff members in the MFU. This intensive process examined personal teaching styles, pedagogy, theory, and best practices. The accreditation not only solidifies GUST's commitment to excellence, but also confirms the strength of the program, and distinguishes GUST as a respected, leading institution in the region and beyond. In addition, the accreditation process itself provides very constructive guidance on how units can improve for students, faculty, the university, and for higher education in Kuwait.
GUST President, Professor Walid Bouhamra, said, “Accreditation is an indication of the stringent standards at which any institution operates. As a university, our aim is to continue to improve and develop our programs for the advancement our students, faculty, and community.”
NADE is a well renowned US-based institution that focuses on the academic success of students by providing professional development for faculty, supporting student learning, disseminating exemplary models of practice, coordinating efforts with other organizations, and facilitating communication among developmental education professionals.
At the conference where the accreditation was awarded, Foundation Program Unit Director Dr. Ilene Winokur, along with Dr. Wassim Daher, and instructors Heba Elhadary, Kelle Hutchinson, and Milena Baeff, gave three presentations to attendees entitled: Data Driven Analysis as a Trajectory for Effective Program Review, Altered Mindsets and Program Review: How the Accreditation Process Changed a Developmental Math Program, and Improve Math Learning and Grades: Integrate Math Study Skills into Math and Student Success Courses.
FPU Director, Dr. Ilene Winokur, said: “With the awarding of the NADE accreditation for the Math Foundation program’s faculty and staff has received NADE’s acknowledgement of its excellence in all areas including program, curriculum, teaching and student achievement.”
In addition to the new NADE accreditation, GUST also holds accreditations from the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) for its English Foundation Program, College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) for its One Stop Student Advising Center, Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for its Computer Science Program, AACSB-International accreditation for its College of Business Administration, and most recently the American Communications Association (ACA) for its Mass Communication and Media Department.
