GUST Takes Silver at CFA Challenge

Kuwait City, 13 April 2021: GUST placed second overall at the CFA Institute Research Challenge, marking the fifth time GUST participated in the challenge. Among the competing universities were, Australian College of Kuwait, American University of the Middle East (AUM), American University of Kuwait (AUK), Gulf University for Science and Technology, and Kuwait University.


The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition, with local chapters in various countries, that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Each student is tested on their analytical skills, valuations, report writing, and presentation skills. They gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst.


Head of Economics and Finance Department at GUST, Dr. Khaled Elmawazini, said “Congratulations to our GUST CFA team for winning 2nd Place in CFA Institute Research Challenge, the most prestigious competition for finance students! Their hard work, research and preparation paid off.  I would like to thank Dr. Mohammed Ali for the time and efforts he put in mentoring GUST CFA team. He has been working hard all these months to get to this point and the achievement is very rewarding both for him and the students.”


Post-Doctoral Researcher at GUST, Dr. Mohamed Ali, said “The panel of judges were very impressed with both written report and presentation. They also mentioned that it was a very close call between first place (Kuwait University) & GUST in the final score.”


GUST submitted two teams, Team A and Team B, who showcased the knowledge, skill, and teamwork of our great students. Team A included student who took part in the presentation they are: Hasan Hany Fahim, Abdulaziz Hesham Alkhashti, Fay Abdulrahman Al Olayan, Kawther Oudeh, and Omar Hossam Khalil. Team B was comprised of students who worked on a separate report then helped prepare and finalize the final report and presentation. They are: Sarah Qabazard, Shouq AlZaben, Sulaiman ALRoumi, and Thunayan Al Mullan.


The success of this competition is part of GUST long standing tradition of students excelling at national and regional level competitions such as, the KCPC challenge and the Techathon. The consistent success of GUST students at academic competitions is a testament to GUSTs commitment to academic excellence.
