GUST Welcomes Freshmen with ‘GUST Talks’ Show
GUST hosted its annual student orientation at its campus centerlast week welcoming its 18thbatch of freshmen. Organized before the start of every Fall Semester, the orientation allows new students to get all the information they need to start their academic year with confidence, and to ensure a smooth transition into university life. The event was attended by GUST senior management members, deans, heads of departments, faculty members, and staff.
The program began in a unique way this year: a live talk show interviewing GUST President, Professor Walid Bouhamra, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Fahed Al-Sumait, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Raghad Al-Kazemi, and GUST alum, Ahmad Al-Fadhli. The guests were interview by GUST students, and Debate Club members, Fatema Al-Kandari and Hassan Waleed. It was a successful show that filled the room with good energy and laughter, as the students got to know the university and its rules in a more personal approach. At the end of each segment, there was a live Q&A session with questions received from the audience through social media.
From there, GUS, the university mascot, led the students to the main campus building, where they were able to meet GUST faculty and staff members, asked questions, familiarized themselves with the university, and enjoyed food, a live harp performance, and the activities set up around campus. Each student had a passport which was stamped at each participating department for the chance to win prizes at the end of the evening!
