GUST Welcomes Freshmen to Annual Student Orientation
Kuwait City, 19 September 2021: Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) held its first "New Student Orientation" in over two years, welcoming freshmen and parents into the GUST community. The orientation took place on Wednesday, September 15th, and Thursday, September 16th, in an on-campus event to prepare students for life on campus, with the official return for all students set for October 3rd. Several of GUST's faculty and staff attended, including Acting President and current Vice President, Professor Bassam Alameddine, and Head of the Office of Student Life, Aseel Abou Nemah.
New Students were gathered in the W6 hall and given a brief introduction on GUST with a video that shared the university's services offered to all students and testimonials from current students sharing their experience as a member of the GUST community. They were also briefed on the One Stop Student Services Center's services and the necessary steps for PUC Scholarship students. After the briefing, students and parents were split into groups for a campus tour of all the facilities, student services, and classrooms on hand while familiarizing the freshmen with the campus grounds.
Acting President and current Vice President, Professor Bassam Alameddine, said, "GUST is immensely happy to welcome these new students into the community with and hopes to support their academic aspirations. All the facilities at GUST are committed to offering their full support and help these students reach their desired academic goals. The university has taken all the necessary precautions to start welcoming you all onto campus in accordance with the Ministry of Health's guidelines. I welcome you all to GUST and encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunities during your time here."
Head of the Office of Student Life, Aseel Abou Nemah, said "Welcome Freshman Class 2021/22; I wish you all success in your academic career. Here at GUST, you will enjoy a unique social environment that will hone your experiences and skills. We at the Office of Student Life will constantly bring you memorable activities and events. We wish you all the best during your time at GUST!"
This year's "New Student Orientation" is the 20th freshman class welcomed since GUST's inception in 2002. GUST is the first private university to be established in Kuwait. Recognized by the Private University Council (PUC), GUST has since acquired several international academic accreditations such as the Commission on Intensive English Program Accreditation (CEA), Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), and the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). GUST continues to welcome students into its community and promises to offer students continuous academic excellence. Its faculty is sourced from the world's leading academic institutions.
