GUST Faculty Member Publishes Article in High Profile Academic Journal

10 February 2020 to 19 March 2020

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) Assistant Professor of Sociology, Dr. Sara Rzayeva’s article, “The triggers and effects of migration from rural Azerbaijan” was published in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies (JEMS).

The article takes a comprehensive approach to rural migration, examining political, economic, and cultural triggers and effects of migration as interconnected.  The findings were based on archival research and in-depth interviews conducted over a five-year period, between 2013 and 2018.

Migration is a branch of Dr. Rzayeva’s research on the social impacts of petroleum-based development strategies within the context of neoliberal globalization.  Previous articles by Dr. Rzayeva have been published in The European Journal of Sociology, and Rural Sociology, which is also a Q1 journal.

JEMS is globally ranked in the top five in two Social Sciences and Humanities categories: it is the second in the subject of “Ethnic studies” and the fourth in the category “Demography”.

This new article published under GUST’s name propels it closer to its goal of being a research and teaching institution.  Recent high-profile publications include those by Dr. Hussain Al Sharoufi, and Ali Dashti, in Public Relations Inquiry, Dr. Bassam Alameddine in the European Polymer Journal and the Journal of Polymer Science, and Dr. Ibrahim Alhiyari in the American Notes and Queries Journal.
