Dr. Bassam Alameddine Awarded Grant by KFAS

15 February 2018

The Functional Materials Group (FM2GUST), led by Dr. Bassam Alameddine, Associate Professor of Chemistry at GUST, have been awarded a National Priorities Research Grant by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), to conduct a study on polymeric material. The grant was awarded one year after the review of the group’s research proposal by KFAS experts.

The three-year study will focus on discovering novel polymeric materials for applications in organic field effect transistors, as well as possible use in photovoltaic cells and gas sensors. It will be executed in collaboration with the University of Strasbourg, the School of Mines of Saint-Etienne, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Kuwait University. The study will include several research visits abroad, but will mainly take place on the GUST campus.

The group will be working closely with Professor Thomas Heiser from the University of Strasbourg, a leading figure in the field of field effect transistors and solar cells.

The study, if successful, will assess a new class of polymers for applications in solar cells devices and gas sensors.

The best of luck to Dr. Alameddine and his team!
