GUST Bids Farewell to Professor Donald Bates
GUST organized a ceremony this week to bid farewell to its President, Professor Donald Bates.
The ceremony brought together the GUST family including members of the shareholders, Board of Trustees, top management, staff, faculty, and friends. Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Salah Al-Sharhan, spoke of Professor Bates and his persistence, wisdom, and friendship. Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Salem Marzouq Al-Tuhaih, awarded President Bates, with a medallion and gift, as a small token of appreciation.
Professor Bates is professor emeritus at California State University, Long Beach, and has served in senior management at seven universities before joining GUST in 2013, where he made many crucial decisions that changed the university for the better. Under his tenure, the university saw four accreditations come together, as well as rising in the ranks of the QS Top Universities in the Region rankings, and the implementation of award winning campaigns plus the university’s branding guidelines. Professor Bates earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Indiana State University, and a PhD from the University of Arkansas.
We wish Professor Bates and his beloved wife, Rhonda, a happy retirement. We appreciate the dedication and effort that he has put to help the university grow. He will be missed.
