Prof. Dr. Bassam Alameddine is currently professor of organic chemistry at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST). Prof. Alameddine received his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland on the synthesis of supramolecular organic materials for optoelectronic applications. He was then granted a Swiss National Science Foundation postdoctoral excellence award fellowship to join Professor Colin Nuckolls’ research group at Columbia University in New York. Before joining Gulf University for Science and Technology in 2010, Dr. Alameddine had taught in many academic institutions where he was teaching assistant at the University of Fribourg and the Federal Polytechnic Institute of Lausanne, then assistant professor at the Lebanese International University and Balamand University, Lebanon before moving to King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Ahmad M. Al-Darbas joined GUST in 2015 as an instructor of law, and is now serving as the Vice President for Professional Development & Community Services. Dr. Al-Darbas earned his Ph.D. in Law from University of London in 2017, and complimentary to his new role, he teaches undergraduate courses in different topics, such as Introduction to Business Law and Ethics. His teaching interests also cover the legal development of the legal systems in the Arab world, human rights in the Gulf, Intellectual Property Regulation in Kuwait, Foreign Real Estate Ownership in GCC Countries, and Foreign Direct Investment in Kuwait.
In addition to his academic role, Dr. Al-Darbas is involved with several University committees such as the Student Affairs Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Social Committee, among many others. He is focused on expanding his research in Legal Protection of Foreign Direct Investment, Commercial and Residential Real Estate Regulation, Capital Market Regulation, Mortgage Law, Company Law, Corporate governance regulation in Arabian Peninsula, and Corporate finance rules & regulations.
Bashar Ibrahim is a Professor of Mathematical Systems Biology at the Gulf University of Science and Technology (GUST). He is also affiliate professor with the University of Jena in Germany and the European Virus Bioinformatics Center. Dr. Ibrahim was the co-founder and coordinator of the European Virus Bioinformatics Center. He completed his PhD with honors (summa cum laude) in Bioinformatics in 2008 and DSc (PD Dr. habil) in Systems Biology in 2013 from the University of Jena. Before joining GUST in 2019, Dr. Ibrahim held various positions at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), University of Jena, and University of Bonn.
Dr. Jean-Paul Arnaout is an associate professor of Production/Operations Management, Associate Dean and Chair of the AACSB Steering Committee at the College of Business. Before joining GUST in 2013, Dr. Arnaout was an assistant professor (Feb 07) and associate professor (Sep 12) of Industrial Engineering (undergraduate) and Engineering Management (graduate) at the Lebanese American University. Dr. Arnaout educational background was initially in engineering with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from University of Balamand, Lebanon (02), then he shifted to management with a Masters Degree (03) and a Ph.D. (06) in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering, with a concentration in Operations Research from Old Dominion University, USA.
