FabLab Engineer

Responsibilities

  • • Overseeing and managing all aspects of the daily operations and use of the GUST FabLab, including the maintenance of the lab's equipment.
  • • Providing Technical support for the FabLab hardware and software.
  • • Develop and deliver hands-on training sessions and workshops on digital fabrication technologies, including 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, electronics, and other relevant tools.
  • • Create and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and project guides.
  • • Provide one-on-one assistance and mentoring to students, faculty, and community members.
  • • Arrange and organize lab tools, equipment, and kits.
  • • Calibrate and tune machinery, including laser cutters (clean lenses, change distilled water) and 3D printers (bed leveling, nozzle cleaning).
  • • Monitor and report any shortages in lab supplies such as 3D printing filaments, laser cutting materials, and major kits.
  • • Ensure continuous availability of necessary materials.
  • • Ensure PCs are functioning without issues, install the latest software and updates for existing machinery and kits, and propose new software beneficial for the lab.
  • • Supervise deep cleaning of all lab areas, including those with heavy machinery.
  • • Maintain a log of all inspection, repair, stock monitoring, and maintenance activities.
  • • Ensure all lab users adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a safe working environment.
  • • Assist students and faculty with the use of lab equipment, ensuring they can safely and effectively complete their projects.
  • • Aid HOD in the purchasing procedures about the equipment and follow up on the financial aspects with the finance department concerning purchases for projects.
  • • Perform other related duties as assigned by the HOD.

Experience

  • • At least 1 year of experience in a similar role, preferably within an educational or research environment.
  • • Technical knowledge of laboratory practices relevant to the field.
