Social Media Officer

Description

  • The Social Media Officer is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, creation, publishing, and monitoring of content across GUST’s official social media platforms.
  • The role supports the Public Relations Department in maintaining an active, consistent, and engaging digital presence that reflects GUST’s brand identity, institutional priorities, student life, academic activities, events, achievements, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, creating, scheduling, and publishing content across GUST’s official social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Snapchat, YouTube, and other relevant channels.
  • Support the development and execution of social media content plans in line with PR, marketing, admissions, student life, academic, athletics, alumni, and executive education objectives.
  • Prepare captions, story content, post copy, short scripts, and platform-specific text in both Arabic and English when required.
  • Coordinate with photographers, videographers, designers, and internal departments to ensure content is prepared, reviewed, and published on time.
  • Assist in covering university events through live stories, short-form content, behind-the-scenes coverage, testimonials, and real-time updates.
  • Ensure that social media coverage reflects the event properly, captures key moments, and follows the approved brief and communication direction.
  • Monitor comments, messages, mentions, tags, and conversations across social media platforms, and coordinate with the relevant teams for appropriate responses when needed.
  • Identify social media trends, platform updates, content formats, and audience behaviors that may support GUST’s digital presence and engagement.
  • Support the creation of creative content ideas for campaigns, events, student engagement, athletics, admissions, executive education, and general university communication.
  • Assist in preparing content briefs for photographers, videographers, designers, and other team members when required.
  • Review social media content before publishing to ensure accuracy, quality, brand consistency, correct formatting, and alignment with GUST’s tone of voice.
  • Maintain an organized content calendar and follow up on pending posts, approvals, captions, visuals, and publishing deadlines.
  • Support the preparation of basic social media performance reports, including engagement, reach, views, audience interaction, and platform growth.
  • Monitor external social media activity and identify opportunities, risks, feedback, or issues that may affect GUST’s reputation or public image.
  • Assist in community engagement by identifying relevant student achievements, campus stories, faculty activities, and institutional updates that can be highlighted.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather information, verify details, and ensure content accuracy before publishing.
  • Support campaign execution by preparing content requirements, organizing deliverables, and ensuring posts are published according to schedule.
  • Maintain consistency across GUST’s social media platforms in terms of tone, visual identity, posting style, and content quality.
  • Carry out any other related duties assigned by the direct supervisor.

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in social media, digital marketing, public relations, content creation, communications, or a related field.
  • Internship, freelance, or student-work experience in content creation or social media may be considered.
  • Experience managing or supporting social media platforms is preferred.
  • Experience in an educational, corporate, agency, or media environment is an advantage.

  • Ability to write clear and engaging captions in Arabic and English.
  • Basic knowledge of social media scheduling, publishing, and reporting tools.
  • Basic understanding of content calendars and campaign planning.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar content tools is an advantage.
  • Basic understanding of social media analytics, engagement rates, reach, impressions, and audience insights.
  • Basic knowledge of photography, videography, and editing is an advantage but not required.

Proffessional Certificates

  • Not required. Certificates or training in social media management, digital marketing, content creation, copywriting, or analytics are an advantage.

Education

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in media & communications, marketing, digital marketing, public relations, or related field.
