English Placement and Level Assignment
Placement into the English Foundation Unit (EFU) is determined in accordance with GUST admission requirements and is designed to ensure valid and reliable placement into instructional levels. Students are placed based on performance on the ACCUPLACER® Placement Assessment (College Board) and/or approved standardized English proficiency examinations (e.g., IELTS or TOEFL).
Placement scores are calibrated to align with EFU instructional levels and CEFR proficiency standards. Based on placement results, students are assigned to either ENGL 097 (Level 1) or ENGL 098 (Level 2). Successful completion of ENGL 098 qualifies students to enroll in ENGL 100, a credit-bearing English composition course. All placement assessments are administered and maintained under secure testing conditions in accordance with university policy.
