GUST is dedicated to promoting responsible stewardship of natural resources. Water conservation is a key component of our commitment to sustainability. This Water Conservation Policy outlines the principles and practices to ensure efficient water use across the university.

Responsibility

All members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators, share the responsibility of conserving water. Each department and individual is accountable for implementing water-saving measures within their areas of influence.

Water audits

GUST will conduct periodic water audits to assess consumption patterns and identify areas for improvement. These audits will guide the development of targeted conservation strategies and the implementation of water-saving technologies.

Landscaping Practices

Landscaping on campus will prioritize the use of native and drought-resistant plants to reduce water demand. Efficient irrigation systems, such as drip irrigation and smart controllers, will be employed to minimize water wastage. Rainwater harvesting systems will also be considered where applicable.

Building Design and Maintenance

New construction and renovation projects will incorporate water-efficient plumbing fixtures and technologies. Existing buildings will be retrofitted with water-saving devices, such as low-flow faucets and dual-flush toilets, whenever feasible. Regular maintenance practices will include prompt repair of leaks to prevent water losses.

Educational programs

GUST will implement educational programs to raise awareness about water conservation among the campus community. Workshops, seminars, and informational campaigns will be organized to encourage water-saving practices in daily activities.

Water Recycling and Reuse

GUST will explore opportunities for recycling and reusing water on campus. Efforts will be made to implement systems for capturing and treating non-potable water for use in irrigation, cooling systems, or other appropriate applications.

Monitoring and Reporting

The university will regularly monitor water consumption data and provide periodic reports to the campus community. This transparency aims to inform and engage all stakeholders in the university's ongoing efforts to conserve water.

Efficient Equipment and Appliances

When purchasing new equipment or appliances, GUST will prioritize water-efficient models that meet or exceed recognized industry standards for water conservation. This applies to laboratory equipment, kitchen appliances, and any other water-consuming devices.

Continuous Improvement

The university will regularly review and update its Water Conservation Policy to incorporate new technologies, best practices, and advancements in water efficiency. Feedback from the campus community will be actively sought to drive continuous improvement.

By adhering to this Water Conservation Policy, GUST strives to become a leader in sustainable water management, minimizing its environmental impact and contributing to a more resilient and responsible future.
