Collaborations with Health Institutions
Gulf University for Science and Technology is committed to advancing health, well-being, and sustainable development through meaningful partnerships with healthcare organizations. In alignment with SDG 3.3.1: Current Collaborations with Health Institutions, the University works to connect academic learning and research with real-world health practices that benefit both students and the wider community.
By collaborating with recognized hospitals and healthcare providers in Kuwait, GUST aims to strengthen the link between education, research, and community service. These partnerships provide opportunities for faculty and students to engage in joint research projects, professional training, and experiential learning that contribute to improving healthcare outcomes. Through such initiatives, GUST not only enhances the academic experience but also supports Kuwait’s broader efforts to promote innovation and excellence in the health sector.
Partnership with Dar Al Shifa Hospital
Gulf University for Science and Technology proudly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dar Al Shifa Hospital in 2024, marking a major milestone in its efforts to strengthen collaboration between academia and the healthcare sector in Kuwait. This partnership, the first of its kind for GUST, reflects a shared commitment to advancing research, innovation, and professional development in support of SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being.
Through this agreement, GUST faculty gain new opportunities to collaborate with medical professionals and researchers on joint studies and innovative healthcare projects aimed at improving patient care and community health outcomes. The partnership also opens the door for GUST students to participate in hands-on internships and training programs, giving them practical exposure to healthcare operations, management, and applied research. These experiences allow students to translate classroom knowledge into meaningful contributions that address real-world challenges.
Beyond research and education, the MoU promotes knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration between the University and one of Kuwait’s leading medical institutions. This cooperation enhances the academic experience, supports workforce development, and contributes to national goals for advancing healthcare quality and innovation. The partnership with Dar Al Shifa Hospital stands as a significant example of GUST’s dedication to building purposeful connections that improve well-being and create lasting impact within the community.
International Hospital Collaboration
On October 23, 2023, the Accounting Club at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) organized a Breast Cancer Awareness event in collaboration with International Hospital, a leading local healthcare institution. The initiative was part of GUST’s ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and community well-being, and it offered free health check-ups to students, faculty, and staff across campus. Medical professionals from International Hospital Kuwait provided on-site consultations, screenings, and information about the importance of early detection and preventive care for breast cancer.
In addition to the check-ups, the event featured a series of informative seminars and discussions that educated attendees about breast health, self-examination practices, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This partnership exemplifies GUST’s commitment to SDG 3.3.1: Current Collaborations with Health Institutions, as it highlights how the University works with local healthcare providers to improve awareness, prevention, and access to medical services within the academic community. By creating opportunities for students and staff to engage directly with medical experts, GUST continues to foster a culture of health education and proactive well-being.
Global Collaboration with Spain to Improve Health and Well-Being
GUST strengthens its commitment to student health and physical development through international collaborations with reputable sports and athletic training institutions. In 2025, the University organized the GUST Athletes Bootcamp in Madrid, Spain, where men’s and women’s teams in padel, basketball, volleyball, and futsal received professional training and performance monitoring. During the bootcamp, GUST athletes also trained with the Atlético Madrid Academy, one of Europe’s most recognized athletic development centers, gaining access to expert coaching, sports science techniques, and advanced fitness methodologies. A similar international training program was held in Barcelona, Spain in 2024, offering high-quality conditioning and health-focused sports preparation.
These partnerships represent strong global collaborations that directly advance SDG 3.3.1, which encourages universities to work with health-oriented institutions to improve well-being outcomes. By connecting GUST athletes with internationally accredited sports academies and training professionals, the University enhances physical fitness, promotes injury-prevention practices, and strengthens long-term student health through world-class expertise and evidence-based athletic development.
