Paternity Policy at GUST
Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) recognizes the importance of family support and shared parental responsibilities during the arrival of a new child. The University values the essential role that fathers play in early childcare and family well-being and is committed to promoting a healthy work-life balance for all employees.
In accordance with Kuwait Labor Law, GUST grants three days of paid paternity leave to male employees following the birth of their child. To apply for this leave, employees are required to provide a birth certificate or medical certificate confirming the birth. This benefit allows fathers to spend valuable time with their families, provide essential support to their partners, and actively participate in the early stages of their child’s life.
This policy also aligns with SDG 5.6.9, as it supports women’s participation in both the workforce and education by encouraging shared childcare responsibilities. By allowing fathers to take dedicated time for family care, GUST helps foster a culture of equality and mutual support, where parenting is recognized as a shared responsibility rather than one solely carried by mothers. The University’s approach not only strengthens family bonds but also reflects its broader commitment to gender equality, employee well-being, and inclusive workplace practices.
