About the Faculty Member

Hussain Al Sharoufi is an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics at Gulf University for Science and Technology. He has been attached to the English Department since its very inception. In 1995, he started his professional career working at Bucharest University in the English Department. From 1996 to 2001, Al Sharoufi worked also for Spiru Haret University in Romania as a lecturer of Pragmatics. In June, 2002, he received his doctoral degree with distinction (Cum Laude) from the University of Bucharest (founded in 1864), Faculty of Foreign Languages. In September 2002, he joined the Gulf University for Science and Technology as a language instructor in the English Language Unit. Two years later, the English Department was created, and Dr. Al Sharoufi became one of its founders at GUST. Dr. Al Sharoufi did his master’s work in the critical theory and Linguistics and his doctoral work in Applied Linguistics. He has received the prestigious annual fellowship offered by GUST in collaboration with UMSL-USA.
