About the Faculty Member

Assistant Professor of English Literature at Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST, Kuwait). Alshammari earned her PhD from the University of Kent, England. Her work was invested in finding commonalities between Eastern and Western literature. Her MA dissertation focused on mad protagonists in postcolonial literature (University of Exeter, 2009). Currently her research interests include disability in fiction and memoir. Her book 'Literary Madness in British, Postcolonial, and Bedouin Women's Writing' was released in 2016. Alshammari is interested in teaching literature as well as creative writing and narrative voice. She has published creative fiction in journals such as Pomona Valley Review, The Barefoot Review, and her own collection of poetry and stories. She is the author of 'Head Above Water' (Neem Tree Press, London, Feminist Press, New York). She is a member of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities. She is currently on the editorial board of Disability and Society Journal.
