Assistant Professor for Computer Engineering in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department

Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering & Architecture at GUST invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Computer Engineering, starting in Fall 2026. We seek exceptional candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, strong record of research publications. Demonstrated or potential ability to secure external research funding is highly desirable. Priority areas include AI hardware acceleration, computer vision, networking/cybersecurity, software engineering and robotics. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and laboratory sections in the Computer and Electrical Engineering programs, supervise senior graduation projects, advise and mentor students, and participate in curriculum development. The candidate will also contribute to ongoing ABET/EAC accreditation activities, engage in departmental and college committees, and maintain an active research program that leads to scholarly publications and, where possible, externally funded research collaborations.

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidate who should possess excellent communication skills in English must be ambitious, self-motivated, hard-working, with the ability to work both individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team where scientific creativity is essential. The applicant must have completed a PhD in Computer Engineering or closely related field from a reputable North American (U.S. or Canada) or European university. Successful candidates should have good quality publication records and are expected to publish high-quality research in leading peer-reviewed journals and work in close collaboration with the research centers at GUST. The successful candidate is encouraged to develop an independent and sustainable research agenda, pursue external funding opportunities, and engage in interdisciplinary or industry-linked research initiatives aligned with national and regional priorities. The department and university provide support for proposal development, access to research centers and laboratories, and opportunities for collaboration across colleges.

Gulf University for Science & Technology (GUST)

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) was established in 2002 as Kuwait's first private American-model liberal arts university. GUST currently offers several programs in Arts and Sciences and Business, including an MBA degree. GUST is internationally accredited by various bodies, including ABET/CAC (Computer Science), ACA (Mass Communication), QAA (English Department), AACSB (Business), NOSS (Foundation Program Unit), and CEA (Foundation Program in English). The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
